RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS
The BETTER BUSINESS ACTCALLCUT supports the Better Business Act — a campaign to change Section 172 of the Companies Act, so that company directors consider the interests of wider stakeholders alongside shareholders.
THE BETTER BUSINESS ACT
The Better Business Act is a growing coalition of UK businesses calling for one simple legal change: an amendment to Section 172 of the Companies Act, so that every company must balance the interests of shareholders with those of employees, customers, communities and the environment.
The Four Principles
Stakeholder governed
Stakeholder interests are considered alongside those of shareholders.
Empowering directors
Directors have the ability to balance the interests of different stakeholders when making decisions.
Default change
The change would apply to all companies rather than relying on businesses to opt in.
Reflected in reporting
Companies would report on how they have balanced the interests of their stakeholders.
WHY CALLCUT SUPPORTS IT
Common sense tells us that if we take from something, we need to put something back.
The basic principles of the Better Business Act recognise that. If we want businesses to continue to prosper, we also need to look after what we’re leaving behind — for our loved ones and future generations.
