MODERATING, PRESENTING & WORKSHOPS
READ THE ROOMPresenting can do strange things to perfectly normal people.
You suddenly become conscious of things you’ve managed quite successfully your entire life. Where do I put my hands? Am I making enough eye contact? Should I move around?
So you start gesticulating and discover you’ve gone too far and now look as though you’re trying to land a plane.
You counterbalance by keeping your hands closer to your body.
Now you look as though you’ve got stomach ache.
Meanwhile, there are people sitting in front of you waiting for you to say something interesting.
There’s a point where concentrating too hard on being a good presenter gets in the way of actually presenting.
IT’S NOT ABOUT US
Whether we’re presenting, moderating a conversation or running a workshop, we’re there for a reason.
There’s something the client wants to communicate, explore or achieve with the people in front of us.
Our job is to help make that happen.
That means working with the client beforehand to understand the brief, then delivering it in the way that best suits the people taking part.
We prepare. We know what we’re there to do.
But we also read the room.
If the conversation needs to move, we move it. If something needs more time, we give it more time. And if everybody already understands the point, there’s little value in spending another twenty minutes proving we do too.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
A moderator for a discussion. Someone to present. A workshop built around something your organisation needs to explore.
Or something that doesn’t fit particularly neatly under any of those headings.
Tell us what you’re trying to achieve and we’ll work with you from there.
